May is Mental Health Awareness Month

In support of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Month, we at Team AgLearn are providing resources and information to encourage engagement with this important annual event. USDA is concerned and committed to wellness and wellbeing of each one of you. The mental wellness of our employees is just as important as the physical safety of our employees. Our goal is to have a holistically healthy work culture. In addition to well-being programs, we want to ensure how we work, the policies and practices in our workspaces, and how we lead as leaders reflect our commitment and take into consideration the wellbeing of each of our employees. The USDA Future of Work Toolkit External Link provides workplace flexibilities guidance, health, and safety measures, leave flexibilities and additional resources available to support USDA employees.

Background on Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental Health Month External Link raises awareness of trauma and the impact it can have on the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of children, families, and communities. Mental Health Month was established in 1949 to increase awareness of the importance of mental health and wellness in Americans' lives, and to celebrate recovery from mental illness. Mental health is essential for a person's overall health. Prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can recover from mental disorders and live full and productive lives.”
